Selective Empathy
Modern society, particularly the Western world, often engages in selective morality while
supporting certain ethical causes for social approval, political convenience, or economic
gain, while ignoring or even contributing to other injustices.
There was a case involving a Palestinian man named Hamed Ashour. After rescuing and
taking care of a stray dog he found, he gained a companion and started posting about it on
social media, which led many people to sympathize with his story. Later an animal welfare
organization reached out to him, evacuated the dog, and left him behind in a tent that wasn’t
even fit for a dog. Or how Germany promotes democracy and freedom of speech, yet
criticism of the Zionist regime is often labeled as antisemitic. And how the United States
claimed to oppose atrocities while supporting actors involved in the Bosnian Genocide, It’s
extremely contradicting how they can dehumanize whoever they want while claiming to be
the righteous ones.
The moment something no longer serves their interests it becomes unnecessary to them this
Is moral hypocrisy.
Selective empathy isn't empathy
